With over 50,000 attendees and exhibitors ranging from Marvel Comics to Troma Films, Comic-Con is the undisputed big-top circus for the "Popular Arts" in the United States. Among the comic book retailers, Sailor Moon look-alikes and monolithic toy conglomerates, a variety of cutting-edge companies will be showcasing their original and innovative action figures and toys. Achy Breaky Toys, the masterminds behind the Mullet Heads figures, has stepped up to a full-sized island booth for this year’s Comic Con. Placed next to Vital Toys and Spike and Mike’s Sick & Twisted Animation, their booth is a must-see for any curious Comic-Con attendee. The Achy Breaky booth will feature Mullet Heads Series 2, including Atrimus Moses Lester (aka "The Carney") and Freddy Gold (aka "The Rocker"). They will also have new keychain mini figures, Mullet Heads Series 1, and the ever-popular Mullet Head gear: pop n’ flix lighter/bottle opener/keychains, stickers, shirts and trucker hats . They will also be selling their new Mad World line of girls shirts and accessories.
As usual, Achy Breaky will be putting on a real show, featuring tons of games (including the Carny Toss, Mullet Head Karaoke and the famous Head-Banging contest) and prizes. Homies creator Dave Gonzales will be signing on Friday and Saturday 3-5 pm, and Snoop Dog (from the movie Half Baked) will be stopping by their booth, too.
Following up last year’s vinyl toys by Dave Cooper, Critterbox will debut an array of new figures by four distinct artists (pictures are forthcoming): HELPER by Tim Biskup — Los Angeles painter Tim Biskup's character is now an 8" articulated vinyl figure, packaged in a beautiful collector box and including a 4-inch mini finger puppet Helper. Quantities and Price TBD. LUCKY by Gary Baseman — based on Baseman’s Dumbluck paintings and forthcoming fine art show and book. The figure will be 10 inches tall, and packaged in a special tin collector box. Quantity and price are to be determined, and expect availability to be strictly limited. Signed by the artist. DRINKY CROW JACK-IN-THE-BOX by Tony Millionaire — the celebrated character from Millionaire's cartoon strip Maakie, this new Drinky Crow collectible jack-in-the-box is made of tin, plays a classic maritime tune, and pops like it should. Retail price is $24.99, and quantities are limited. SMOKING CAT by Kaz — Inspired by one of the stars of the Underworld syndicated weekly comic strip, the Smoking Cat deluxe vinyl figure is packaged in an original box designed by the artist. Quantity and price to be determined. In addition to these new figures, Critterbox will have limited quantities of Dave Cooper’s Eddy Table and Pip + Norton figures available.
Located in the Southwest corner of the hall near the Art Auction, STRANGEco will be doing their part to foment the designer toy revolution in the US. The Strange Collective will be showcasing a number of projects, collaborations and exclusives:
DORBEL by Jim Woodring— STRANGEco’s first figure will get its advance debut at the Con. Two special versions will be available at the STRANGEco booth: the brown Hong Kong edition (limited to 250 pieces) and the grayscale Super-7 Magazine edition (limited to 100 pieces). STRANGEco will also have a limited-edition Dorbel poster by Rick Altergott, free with the purchase of any Dorbel.
San Francisco-based Super-7 Magazine will debut Issue #3, featuring massive articles on Optimus Prime, Inazuman, Denys Fisher Cyborgs, and much more (including STRANGEco’s own Designer Vinyls column). Super-7 will also be featuring their own Comic-Con toy exclusive: a special 1974 Godzilla vinyl. Limited to only 80 pieces and standing 9 inches tall, this special paint version is sure to be a sell-out. Super-7 Magazine is sharing a booth with STRANGEco, so come by and visit them both.

The Toxic Teddies are bringing a coffin to Comic-Con, and will be happy to show you what's in it. Come meet Buzzy, Smackie, Bye Bye and the rest of the gang and snag a beautiful hand-painted bear while supplies last. The Superfun Company (Toxic Teddies creators) will also unveil a special Comic-Con exclusive mystery figure during the show, which is destined to strike fear into every toy scalper's heart. Culture is dead, long live the Toxic teddies!
With a double-sized booth at Comic Con and a major launch in Japan by Interlink Planning, the month of July marks the introduction of Uglydolls on a global scale. Creators David and Sun-Min will be at the show, as will all six existing Uglydoll characters. They’re holding off sneak peaks at new product, but you never know what Comic Con will produce.
Warning Label Design is proud to announce the advance preview launch of the BIDDIES "Back In the Dayz" mini action figure line at the 2003 San Diego Comic-Con. This preview launch is exclusive to the Comic Con show, and will be the only Biddies figures available until the official Fall 2003 release. Quantities are extremely limited— 50 pieces of each character in four colors, totaling 1000 pieces only. As an added bonus, a free ultra-rare Imperial One figure— less than 200 pieces per color made— will be included with the purchase of a full 5-figure set.
