In April 2006, MTV Books released a new addition to their "Overground" book series, this time focusing on the pop culture phenomenon of Art Toys. Titled Toys: New Designs from the Art Toy Revolution, this 218 page color photo book features an expansive collection of originally designed toys, from Japan and Hong Kong to San Francisco, New York, London and points both between and beyond. More than 100 artists and designers are included, and it has been edited by STRANGEco!

As a photo book, Toys has an emphasis on eye candy images. The majority of the figures featured have been photographed specifically for the project, adding an distinctively colorful and original style to the mix. It's a great book for signings, as each page features artists and designers whose vinyls have made toy culture history.

To paraphrase the introduction, Toys is a celebration of style, process and design. More than 300 toys have been featured, along with some of the art that inspired them and interviews with artists, producers and impresarios who contribute to Art Toy culture. Are they toys or are they art? Does there have to be a distinction? Toys invites you to have fun deciding for yourself.
