To no surprise, Michael Lau's booth was flooded with fans for the first several hours of the show every single day. Right next to the main entrance, and with plenty of space for fans to queue up, the booth was an event itself each morning. Crazysmiles kept the excitement up by releasing one or two new figures each day of the show. This Toycon, Michael had four new releases:
* Cc14: "boy.d" Nike/Fiberops crossover: For sale on Day 1 of the show, boy.d is in the style of Michael's recent crazychildren (with pixelated faces and a rough-hewn sculpt), and came packaged with a Nike-swooped version of his previously released "the pig" figure. Limited to 600 pieces, the figure itself wasn't displayed at Toycon- only the shoe-box packaging was in the glass case. But, you can check out Fatlace.com's pic of the figure right here. * crazychildren Designer Bear project: Showing a new departure, crazysmiles had 5 crossover designs of Lau's previously released "bear" figure. Featured designers include LMF's prodip, maharishi's hadry, junkie, wallace and Michael Lau himself. * cc17, "Cat& book": Released on Day 2, Cat is another figure based on one of the actresses from "girllittlehouse" (for which Michael was the art director). "Cat& book" features a sculpting style similar to boy d and 2002's crop of crazychildren. However, she departs from her recent crazychildren brethren in that she sports an actual face. Topping that (no pun intended), she's got hair - a first for a crazysmiles rotocast figure. "Cat&" also comes equipped with a stand, a pet cat, and a full-photo promo booklet. * LamDogStar IV: Released on Day 3, LamDogStar IV is yet another incarnation of LMF member, LamDog. The set includes 2 figures constructed of soft, pliable vinyl over wire armature, which allows for all sorts of posing possibilities (think Gumby). The set features a decidedly old school hip hop look, complete with Adidas-inspired shoe box packaging. Hats off to Michael Lau; he can brilliantly bite the hand that feeds him! |
