2da6 was back at Toycon, with several new figures and one hell of a show. Pronounced "Yee Da Luk" in Cantonese, 2da6 translates into English as "small potatoes," and summarizes the creative vision of the series. Forgoing the trend of hip-hop fashion that has been nearly ubiquitous among recent boutique figures and art toys, 2da6 represents everyday characters seen all over Hong Kong. Bamboo scaffolding workers, fortune tellers and gasoline delivery men are among these unsung heroes. Each figure is well detailed and distinctively sculpted, with great accessories and package design. 2da6 brings a refreshingly authentic flavor of contemporary Hong Kong into their figures.
This Toycon, the 2da6 booth featured all of the 12-inch figures they've produced to date, including the two newest releases. "Gulf" is a beefy gasoline delivery man, with gas cans and a seriously muscular body. "Wayne" is a tea house waiter, complete with sunglasses, a cell phone and plenty of attitude. They also featured four chef one-off figures made as a crossover for the Lan Kwai Fong Group, the owner of several international restaurants in Hong Kong. 2da6 wins the prize for including multimedia into their Toycon presentation. A TV looped a short film composed of several vignettes featuring "Gulf" and "Wayne", with accompanying music that could be heard all over the exhibition hall. They also enlisted actors to don gigantic masks of "Gulf" and "Wayne" and wander the show floor to promote their new releases. All in all, they rolled out the most interactive presentation at Toycon. |
